Why Sleep in a Hypoxic Environment?

Sleeping in a hypoxic (low oxygen) environment provides many of the same benefits as training in one during our normal hours. Your body instinctively recognizes the low oxygen environment and kicks in several physiological adaptations. See our referenced list of benefits and scientific literature here.  In short, the primary benefits that will help you prepare for high altitude destinations as well as perform better at sea level include:

How to Make The Experience More Comfortable?

  • Earplugs, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and pillow.
  • Expect sleep to be less comfortable while at altitude. The reason Evolution has provided the opportunity to train high and live low is because you can get all the physiological benefits of high altitude training without the negative impacts of prolonged exposure: poor appetite, poor sleep, and poor recovery.
  • Sleeping high should be expected to produce some impacts you may not desire, incorporate this into your training plan accordingly.
  • Feel free to contact us with questions about your training plan or pros/cons of different training paradigms.

Optional Altitude Adapter System: Everest Summit II

For athletes who want to train harder, we offer an adapter system that connects directly to a training mask (not for sleep). Simulate altitudes up to 20,000 feet with precision monitoring using an Oxygen Analyzer and Pulse Oximeter.
